I got off work today and went over to Gridiron 9, Steve McNair's new restaurant, on Jefferson Street near Tennessee State University.
WOW
Of course I brought my camera along to capture this moment.
WOW
Of course I brought my camera along to capture this moment.
While I was taking photos it finally hit me that he was gone.
Gone over a stupid situation.
A son, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a friend, a role model, a husband, a father...Gone.
No one is perfect and we all make mistakes.
Occasionally, we have that stupid mistake that we learn a hard lesson from.
Most remember Steve as a Titan, an Oiler - I remember Steve as a Brave!
A Brave you ask??? Yes, a Brave of Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS (affectionately known as the Academic Resort!)
I remember the hour and a half drive from my hometown to the school with my dad.
I remember sitting in the hot midday and afternoon sun watching Alcorn play Prairie View A&M, Grambling or Southern University because the stadium didn't have lights.
I remember Steve running 90+ yards for a touchdown, lobbing hail mary passes to a reciever in double coverage only to score another touchdown and I remember the occasional kickoff returns. Steve was all over the gridiron.
My prayers go out to his wife, his sons and the rest of his family but a special prayer goes out to all those young men who longed for the summer and the Steve McNair footbally camps in Mississippi and Tennessee.
They all have suffered a great loss.
